1st grade: Mrs. Hammond

Mrs. Hammond has been a substitute teacher at SJAS for many years. She is a graduate of St. Cloud State University and Bemidji State University. Mrs. Hammond is very excited to be the first grade teacher at SJAS!

Mrs. Hammond is married to Randy and they have a daughter, Victoria and a son, Christopher. They also have a St. Bernard named Bach. The Hammonds enjoy living in their home in the country. Mrs. Hammond enjoys reading, gardening, baking, crocheting, knitting, and sewing.

About the Classroom

  • Reading/Writing: We will actively read throughout the school year using a variety of mediums and expanding our reading through writing.
  • Math: Addition and Subtraction, Graphs and Tables, Place Value, Patterning, Solid Figures and Shapes, Fractions, Money, Time and Calendar, Measurement
  • Religion: We explore our Catholic Faith in our lives.
  • Social: We explore our world, current events through Weekly Readers, and utilize a mapping unit in our Social Studies program.
  • Science: We explore various areas in Life, Physical, and Earth Sciences throughout our program with hands-on exploration and learning.

Other Things to Know

  • Please check your child’s home folder each day for notes and classroom information. Asking your child about the contents of the folder is a great way to learn about their day and increase verbal skills.
  • Home Reading: Students will expand on the reading they do with parents through retellings, writing, schematic mapping, and Accelerated Reader testing.
  • Newsletters will be sent home on Fridays. 
  • Library: We will visit the library once a week for students to check out books. 
  • Music: The students will enjoy music class once each week and music will be used within the classroom to enhance our learning. 
  • Physical Education: Students will participate in phy-ed three times per week. Please help your child remember to wear or bring tennis shoes on these days. 
  • Computer: Students will have computer class two days per week and technology will be used within the classroom as well. 
  • Mass: The students will attend mass twice a week and our class will be responsible for planning and helping at the mass periodically throughout the year. Dates for our masses will be in the classroom newsletter.
